"To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them."----Elliott Erwitt

Note from BT: I love hummingbirds as is clear by my photography habits. There is always another hummer to be photographed in my mind. When I am working in the garden I always hear the bird before I see him--his buzzing is very apparent. This young Anna's Hummer came dancing in to the Sage this afternoon as I was on the porch with my camera, and he delighted me with staying for me to "catch him" on my digital camera. What beauty! They are by far, one of my most favorite birds and to think they favor us with their company in the garden!! I hope you enjoy this photo. It is for you, the reader of my web site. Thanks for coming onto the web and onto my site. For more of my Hummingbird photos, click here. BT--April 18, 2007

The Hummingbird

The sunlight speaks. And it's voice is a bird:

It glitters half-guessed half seen half-heard

Above the flower bed. Over the lawn ...

A flashing dip and it is gone.

And all it lends to the eye is this --

A sunbeam giving the air a kiss.

The Anna's Hummingbird glides

In on gossamer wings,

Hovering, buzzing, feeding.

A beauty in this realm of

Nature.

Authors note: If one is interested in photography and has a camera that you understand, you can become fanatical about photographing hummingbirds in flight. I believe I have become that! Recently we planted our English garden in our back yard, and the new Alstromerias and Agapanthus plants with their ever so colorful blossoms have become a daily feeding area for our Anna's Hummingbirds. They are forever fascinating, and visit the garden several times a day. At times I have been in the garden, and a hummingbird comes in very close and hovers, buzzing, nearby---almost as if he is studying this life form that has invaded his garden from the people world. It is thrilling!! So today, in the back patio with the cam, I was able to capture these photos for your enjoyment. I hope you like them. As for me, I love the hummers. They are lively, beautiful and lend a bit of beauty to the day.----BT, August 8, 2006

The Hummingbird symbolizes transformation.

She guides the young children through

the Nierika, the doorway to the other world.

She brings them to all of the places

of power and knowledge.

Hummingbird

Only a glimpse

at shimmering speed.

a presence so grand

stunning indeed.

a sign of great love . . . the hummingbird.

Ode to a Hummingbird

Light shot through diaphanous wing
Fifty beats per second

Its long beak dipped in the flower of
Life's sweet nectar

Too fleet to see without an informative eye
A blur in the green gasp of forest needles
Yet when spied, delight

The happenstance of cat's catching
Fate's vivid colors dancing

In the rainbow shade
'Twixt day and night.

---- Laurence Overmire

He glides in on

Magic transparent wings,

Humming and buzzing toward

The blossoms--

A miracle of nature.
